Program Design Principles

Skill Shift’s sales coaching and learning programs are very different from a typical corporate workshop. The program design encourages the participants to connect with each other and the facilitator. A safe, supportive environment, conducive to mutual respect, promotes collaboration and initiative. The atmosphere of our workshops reaches a significant level of intimacy between participants, making the learning process enjoyable and effective. Socializing and connecting with people during the breaks in such supportive and relaxed setting builds trust between the participants.

The program facilitators provide ongoing support and development of new behaviors and actions, including those that alter the participants’ relationship to what they think is possible. They use a humorous and respectful style of leading to engage and challenge the participants in our activity-based exercises. Always available for assistance, they demonstrate personal integrity, honesty, and respect for group’s perceptions and personal being throughout the whole program.

Our programs incorporate the following adult education principles:

+ A Positive Learning Environment

+ Total Learner Involvement

+ Collaboration Among Learners

+ Contextual Learning

+ Learning is Creation, not Consumption

Our programs are based on activity and interaction. We employ a variety of different facilitation techniques to create a smooth, stimulating and efficient learning experience and encourage active collaboration among the participants:

People learn best in a positive physical, emotional, and social environment, in a relaxed, yet stimulating setting. An optimal human learning is achieved in an atmosphere of wholeness, safety, interest, and enjoyment.
Effective learning requires active participation and deep involvement. It is not a spectator sport, but a participatory one. A passive absorption of the material doesn’t have a substantial effect on the learner, and certainly is not capable of triggering a shift in the attitudes and behavior. People learn best, when they are totally involved and take responsibility for their learning. Our programs are strongly activity-based to promote a total learner involvement.
People learn best in an environment of collaboration. Our programs create a social learning experience, as opposed to traditional learning that emphasizes competition between isolated participants. Collaboration establishes positive relationships between participants and creates a supportive environment, conducive of friendly, active, and effective learning.
People learn best in context. Isolated facts and skills are abstracted from reality and, as a result, are hard to absorb and quick to evaporate. The best learning comes from doing the work itself, making it easy for people to relate to and master the new skills. Our learning process is a continuous cycle of “real-world immersion” – practicing new techniques in regular work setting, feedback, reflection, evaluation, and re-immersion in the work setting taking into account the recommendations and the feedbacks.
Knowledge is created by the learner. It is the creation of new meanings in our perception of the reality, the creation of new neural networks and new patterns of electro-chemical interactions in our brains. When learners integrate the new knowledge and new skills into their existing system of values and concepts, when they adapt the new techniques into their existing models of behavior – this is when the true learning process occurs.
