What does it mean to Be Coachable?
A game starts when one person uses future-based language and says that something is more important than something else. You make a game when you declare that something is important. That is what you’re putting at stake, and it is what you’re holding yourself accountable to. When others commit to the game with you, they join you on the field. All businesses start by one person declaring that something is more important than something else. Can you remember what it was that first got you into the game of owning or running a business? What was it that motivated you and inspired you toplay the game you’re playing? Do you remember, or was it so long ago, or have you been through too much to even remember? Are you closely related to why people say yes to your offer? Do you know
what your clients really care about? How about your employees? What about you, what do you really
care about?
When you started playing you’re game what was the future you envisioned? Take a moment and think
back, what were you really committing yourself to? Looking at where you are at now with your business,
have you fulfilled on the future you envisioned? Have you lived the dreams you envisioned or have you
been dealing with the same set of obstacles year after year making minimal progress and growth? Are
you constantly wondering; what’s it going to take to bring me to the next level? Or how can I manage
my team better? Do you think to yourself, if only there were more hours in the day to concentrate on
what really mattered? Do you hear a conversation in your head that sounds like: all I do is put out fires?
What is it going to take to emerge and produce new results? What is it going to take to beat the
competition and deal with a new era of business?
The first step in dealing powerfully with a new era of business starts with identifying if you are
coachable. Are you more committed to what you want than to what you have already got? Are you
willing to try on new perspectives, take new risks, look at new possibilities and confront your usual
business practices? Are you ready to confront those very practices that got you this far? Are you willing
to be responsible for your business? Back to the game – Imagine a hockey player said: I can’t I’m not
coachable; I don’t want to – where would that leave the team, the game, and the fans?
Professional athletes have a coach because they are serious about producing results that are
extraordinary – consistently. It’s a coaches’ job to support them in seeing what’s missing so that they
can put that in and up their game.
Who do you have in your corner to support you to take your business to the next level? Have you
considered what’s possible with a coach? IMAGINE……Tip — Be Coachable
